In partnership with the Mercantour national park, the mixed association for the Development of the Vésubie and Valdeblore valleys – in the context of encouraging ecotourism - suggests a different way to explore the Authion range, the natural fortress that dominates the Vésubie and Roya valleys..
By means of an electgrically assisted bicycle and a dedicated smartphone app, you’re invited to start from the Turini pass and discover some beautiful scenery as much cultural as it is natural, the high loop in the Authion and for the most part at the central zone of the Mercantour national park.
It’s worth noting that with the exception of the course you’re going to follow, riding bicycles is totally forbidden in the heart of the Mercantour. You will make sure you don’t leave the RD68 departmental road other than on foot, racks being provided along the way so you can attach your bike and so aid your sightseeing.
From the napoleonic wars to the last war, the many ruined forts of the ’Authion provide vivid reminders of the tragic feats of arms that took place there. Today a peaceful place to graze, the Authion plateau lends itself particularly well to an electrically assisted bike rids.
The lovely view along the whole course makes you admire the western part of the Mercantour massif and the last foothills of the Alps before they plunge into the Mediterranean.
